Questions Unanswered #1

I started this blog not to show the world how smart I am (or maybe not). I started blogging so that I could interact with lotsa different kinds of people and get their different views on various subjects.

It amazes me how different people interpret different situations according to stuff that has happened to them in the past. So I'm writing a forum type post today. Here goes...

Guys, living in India, we cannot imagine life without religion and various religious practices. We have heard of people committing heinous sins and going off to religious places to wash them off. Its believed that a dip in the Holy Ganges will wash you off you sins etc etc. People travel long distances to such places to cleanse themselves.

Now we've heard that the access roads to such places are very dangerous and the journeys, tedious. Often we read in newspapers that tourist vehicles meet with fatal accident while on such religious journeys where pilgrims die in large numbers. Recently there was a stampede in a temple which lead to the death of many people.

So now I wonder... Would they be alive if they din leave home at all?

Is this some way by which God punishes them?

If they are totally cleansed, why weren't they let to live to commit more sins (or to live a normal life)?

Well I'm hoping to get many answers from the blogosphere... You may comment on the topic or even on the following comments.
And I'd be mighty thankful if you forwarded the link to people who you think would be interested to answer this too...

there is this friend of mine who says, "debit and credit ek saath hi hota hai, and sabki life ka debit and credit, issi janam mien hoga"... and i so agree with him.. Frankly, I think that God punishes them for committing sins. But you may raise a point that there are hell lot of people who do blunders and still escape and live happily and die a natural death. I dont know about these people. But I have never heard about any criminal being an atheist. And for those who die, perhaps god wasnt happy by the way they prayed. You know, "dil saaf hona chahiye specially when u r praying to God"...

Well! The answer is simple. If they are meant to die they die wherever they go...
It got nothing to do with Gods and sins. Its just fate.

Being an Anthropologist and a confirmed Agnostic by choice, I am looking forward if at all someone punishes the so called GOD for his misdeeds of this creation.

Well religion holds a prime place in lives of people in my part of the world.
Coming to your question, well I think it's just a mere coincidence that those people who die on their way to places of pilgrimage evoke feelings of 'being punished' by the supreme power for their deeds.

Countless people die in road accidents at other venues that places of religious interest, then don't we deem every death by an accident as a 'punishment'?

Seeing the secularism and infinite places of worship that exist in India (also owing to the huge population) the death toll in these incidents sounds massive.

I believe in the Karma concept of "whatever we do in this life, we shall have to pay for it in the same life."

But an attempt to relate it to the deaths around religious places doesn't sound valid to me.

I guess I got a bit carried away, but those were my two cents on your question.

Cheers!!

@Manjari
Well said... But what about "Is janam mein puna karogi to agle janam mein achha pati milega" lol JK

@Chanz
Agree with you... LOL @ 'the way they prayed' Thosa sur mein bhajan gaana chahiye tha!

@Nethra
Unfortunately these ppl don't think the same... They go to get a new lease of life

@Ravan
So therez no God, but there is heaven and hell?

@Mahesh
Interesting...

@CB
I agree its just fate but people think its punishment because of the fact that such accidents may not have happened due to their own faults... So when they lose their lives because the driver was sleepy, they just deduce that God wanted it to happen.

@Uncommon
We'll have to wait till 2012 for that :P

Everything happens for Good.
The athma survives. Body is just a vehicle.

Well..let me put some coffee in my vehicle.

it's simply just a destiny.

moreover if that kinds of accidents are always being said as God's punishment, then I think God must have been gone mad.

nice post, nice thought. :)

Death is a constant. You may be an atheist, you might be God-fearing or God-loving but you are destined to leave the body one day. That day can visit one any day. You can't extend your visit in this world just buy doing some extra prayers or dip in holy rivers. If your visa expires, you are deported no matter what passport you hold.

Don't think there is any perfect answer for this question. Just gotta go on doing good things - morally, ethically. Can't really afford to think about things that we can't control, can we?

Sad to see that the gross negligience of the people who are responsible for these roads and facilities (everyone of us, that is) aren't being blamed, instead god is being debated........I am an agnostic, I think it is not important whether there is a god or not, but it is important to not let lives extinguish in this manner, life for that matter (not just humans) is very precious.......

Would they be alive if they din leave home at all?

No, not necessary. One has to die, either due to disease, old age or whenever it is slated to happen.

Is this some way by which God punishes them?

You never know. Might be. There is something called mass karma (if you believe in it) where people from different places are attracted to one place because of their karmas to die in a specific place. The Why me? factor does not apply here because a separate law of Karma (or creation if you might say) works for which we have no answers as humans.

If they are totally cleansed, why weren't they let to live to commit more sins (or to live a normal life)?
As I mentioned, it is all about the dynamics of Karma, to live well or to suffer, to survive or to die.

It's not that u just take a dip and you get redemption...manat te paschatap kharach asla pahije...people comfort themselves that just a dip will do..

the thing is that even for a moment you totally devote to God only, your all previous karmas, good or bad, gets erased. But again, it should come genuinely...
